You have already made the decision that you require a commercial or residential tree specialist to carry out tree felling, crown lifting, stump grinding, tree planting or another tree-related project. Once that’s decided, what are the most important things that you should consider? What are the questions that you should be asking to ensure you’ve found the right team for your job? In this blog we will talk through a few factors that we think are important when you’re considering the options available:
Reviews
We don’t think that we need to tell you about this one as consumers have, in recent years, become increasingly savvy when selecting service providers. If you’re considering a tree surgeon, then look at their reviews on Google or Checkatrade. What do others say about them? How would others rate them for reliability, timekeeping, courtesy and workmanship? See here what clients think about Expertrees.
Experience and Size of Team
As well as looking at reviews, talk to the tree surgeon and learn about the type of jobs on which they usually work. Consider the number of years they’ve gained experience since qualification and how many years the team has been working for the current organisation. Also ask questions about how many of their team they will be devoting to your tree project, and why. Additionally, an important point to note – are all the team employed and verified by the business or does the organisation hire external contractors who they can perhaps rely on less?
Location
It’s probably best that your tree surgeon is not too far away from the tree project that you need to carry out. That way they are not wasting precious work time (and needless fuel) travelling to and from your job. You will find that a lot of tree surgeons service certain areas around their base. Look at the locations on their website. If you want to know which areas Expertrees service in Surrey and Kent please see here.
Expertise and Qualifications
Tree surgeons should always be qualified but take some time to understand their particular expertise, if relevant. If you are looking at commercial tree work, does your tree surgeon already have experience in this area and could you perhaps obtain a reference? If your job is particularly large or complicated (eg over a road, or near a building), does your tree surgeon have experience at dealing with the issues that may arise? If you are based in Surrey or Kent and would like a preliminary chat with Expertrees please get in touch here.
Insurance
Should something go wrong, do the tree surgeons that you are selecting possess adequate insurance? For example, Expertrees are insured up to £5 Million Public Liability Including Product and Pollution Liability. Always ask about insurance upon your first meeting or refer to the insurance details from their website.
