To carry out their tree projects effectively and safely, tree surgeons use a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
This ranges from both heavy-duty equipment to make tasks easier and safety equipment to minimise risk.
In this blog, we explore some common machinery that is used by tree surgeons in the UK.
Chainsaws:
You are probably already familiar with these. Chainsaws come in all different sizes and are essential for tree surgeons to carry out pruning, tree felling, crown lifting and more. Once the branches are on the floor, chainsaws can be used to cut them into manageable pieces for removal from the property.
Safety equipment:
Safety is vital in tree surgery, so tree surgeons need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE). Examples of PPE for tree surgeons may include hard hats, eye protection, ear protection, safety boots and gloves. The safety equipment worn depends on the specific task in hand.
Wood chippers:
In order to process tree trunks and branches and dispose of them in an eco-friendly way, tree surgeons use woodchippers. These machines provide an efficient way to process the wood debris for recycling.
Pruning tools:
Tree surgeons use a variety of pruning tools, including hand pruners, loppers, and pole saws. They cut away branches to help shape the trees as agreed with the customer, keeping them as aesthetically pleasing as possible and within the remit of the Borough Council’s recommendations made upon trees with a tree preservation order.
Stump grinders:
If you need tree stump removal at your property then a stump grinder is necessary to remove the stump from the ground. It’s impossible to carry out this task manually. These machines have rotating cutting discs with sharp teeth that grind away the stump and roots, making the task a little easier.
Climbing equipment:
All tree surgeons need to be able to climb trees easily and safely. They may use equipment such as ropes, harnesses and ascenders to do so to carry out pruning, inspection, crown lifting and pollarding.
Aerial lifts/MEWPS:
These platforms provide a safe and stable area for tree surgeons to work on particularly high branches. They may use cherry pickers or Mobile Elevated Work Platforms to carry out tasks safely and efficiently, depending on the task in hand.
The equipment and machinery that we bring to your job will vary based on the size of the area, the size of the trees, the nature of the job and the techniques that we choose to use to carry out the operation most effectively.
We will make sure that whichever machinery or equipment we use, the team on site are adequately trained from a safety perspective.
